4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking with Twin Lakes, Golden Monkeys and Lake Kivu Tour

You will also visit the picturesque Twin Lakes and unwind on the shores of Lake Kivu before concluding your journey back in Kigali. Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative, who will drive you into Kigali city for a guided tour. If you are already in Kigali, after breakfast at your hotel, our representative will pick you up for the city tour.
During the tour, you will visit key historical and cultural sites, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides an in-depth understanding of Rwanda’s history and resilience. You will also explore the Kandt House Museum and the vibrant local markets to experience Rwanda’s culture and craftsmanship.
After lunch in Kigali, you will embark on a scenic two-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda. Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge, where you can relax and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Volcanoes National Park is famous for its mountain gorillas and is part of the Virunga Conservation Area. The park is home to five of the eight Virunga Mountains: Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. It offers breathtaking landscapes covered in dense rainforests and bamboo, making it a prime destination for wildlife encounters, golden monkey tracking, and a visit to the Dian Fossey grave site.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure & Visit to the Twin Lakes
Wake up early and have breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. You will be assigned a gorilla family and led into the forest by experienced park rangers.
The gorilla trekking experience can take between 1 to 8 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas. Once you locate them, you will spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Witness their interactions, playful young ones, and the silverback’s leadership.
After the trek, enjoy your packed lunch in the forest before heading back to your lodge to rest. Later in the evening, you will take a scenic visit to the Twin Lakes – Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. These beautiful lakes, nestled at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains, offer spectacular views, bird-watching opportunities, and cultural encounters with local fishermen.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, embark on an exciting golden monkey tracking experience. These rare and playful primates are endemic to the Virunga region and provide an incredible wildlife experience distinct from gorilla trekking. The trek takes you through bamboo forests, where you will observe these energetic monkeys leaping between trees.
Following the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and check out. You will then transfer to Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes, located on Rwanda’s western border. The drive offers stunning scenery, passing through rolling hills and picturesque countryside.
Upon arrival, check in at your lakeside lodge and relax on the beach. Lake Kivu provides a peaceful retreat, perfect for unwinding after the trekking activities. Enjoy optional leisure activities such as swimming, kayaking, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views of the lake.

Day 4: Boat Ride on Lake Kivu – Transfer to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast, take a boat ride on Lake Kivu, exploring its tranquil waters and small islands. You will have a chance to see local fishing villages and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake.
Later, return to the lodge, check out, and embark on a two-hour drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, enjoy a farewell lunch in the city before transferring to the airport for your departure flight.
