Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest

Detailed Itinerary for Chimp Safari and wildlife tours in Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda

On arrival you will be picked form the airport by our company representative who will transfer you to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in preparation for your Chimpanzee Trek in Nyungwe. Overnight stay at Hotel Des Mile Collines.

Day 2: From Kigali transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, the driver will pick you up and drive to you to the city where you will do a city tour. Visit the Genocide Memorial site, you will also visit the tourist attractions sites of traditional Rwanda King’s palace in Nyanza and also the Cultural Museum in Butare later you will drive to Nyunwge National Park, a home to several primates in Rwanda. This takes about 6-7 hours drive. Nyungwe forest has a wide diversity of animal species; it contains 13 different primate species, 275 bird species, 85 mammal species, 32 amphibian and 38 reptile species. When you arrive, you will check in at the lodge, where you will have dinner and all night stay.

Day 3: Enjoy a Chimpanzee Trek Rwanda and Nature Walk in Nyungwe Forest 

You will have breakfast early in the morning; later go to the park head office for a briefing. After the briefing in the company of the game rangers you will go for Chimpanzee trekking in the thick tropical rain forest. You will expect to see other primates like Angolan colobus monkeys, golden monkeys, Red tailed and blue monkeys among others. The trek takes about 3-5 hours. After the trek you will go for lunch and then relax for a few hours. In the evening you will go for a guided nature walk in the forest. This is also a good time for birders to enjoy the tour. The Forest is a home to various bird species like the black and white casqued horn bill and the Rwenzori Turacco among others. You will later go back to the lodge where you will have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali

Subsequent to breakfast, you will drive from Nyungwe Forest which takes about 6-7 hours. Have lunch in Kigali upon arrival. Relax the rest of the afternoon

Day 5: Drive Akagera National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked by our company representative who will drive you to Akagera national park which takes about 2.5 hours, check in at the lodge where you will have dinner and overnight stay. The Akagera National Park borders with Tanzania in the East. The plant life with in this park is largely Savannah, mountain and swamp. It’s a home to various animals and birds, and a very big lake called Lake Ihema.

Day 6: Game Drive Safari drive and Boat Ride

Wake up early enough, have breakfast and later go for a game drive. You might spot animals like elephants, buffaloes, lions, Maasai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard and bush buck while on the game drive. You will later go to the lodge, have lunch and after go for an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema. While doing a boat ride you will spot animals like hippos, crocodiles, and birds like the Shoe billed stock, herons, papyrus gonolek, ibis, sand pipers and jacanas among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day 7: Kigali – Departure

Take breakfast and then be driven back to Kigali to proceed to the airport for your exodus flight.
